matt karmil is a british musician currently residing in sweden. ++++ is his third album, following 2014 s pnn debut - - - - and idle033, released on bristol label idle hands earlier this year. his output also includes a variety of singles for labels such as new york s beats in space recordings and stockholm s studio barnhus. on this new album, karmil can be heard exploring the concepts of impossible objects, reflection, symmetry, infinity perspective, truncated and stellated polyhedra - hyperbolic geometry, tessellations and lost love. while making the music that constitutes ++++ he interacted with mathematicians george p�lya, roger penrose and harold coxeter as well as the crystallographer friedrich haag, and also conducted his own research into tessellation. the result is ++++, karmil s most clever, strange, emotional and fun work yet, a testament to his breadth and depth as a musician. did we forget to mention that he s an awesome party dj?

two years ago i played at studio 9 in vilnius, lithuania. the following day i missed my flight home and ended up spending an extra day, which gave me a chance to explore the city with my friend linus, who took me to the contemporary art centre. it was there i spotted a book named ÔrojusÕ, that linus told me translated as ÔparadiseÕ. the word and striking cover of the book stuck in my mind. a few days after returning home, i turned on to a national geographic documentary named Ôdesigned to danceÕ, explaining the courtship rituals of birds of paradise. as i watched, i jokingly began drawing similarities between these birdsÕ attempts to captivate and impress the opposite sex with dance, and the way strangers try to attract one another in clubs and interact on the dance floor. this gave me the idea of creating a record of functional club music, sequenced as if it were a club night, from doors to closing, using samples of these birds of paradise and their habitat. thus, rojus. leon vynehall 2016

das duo essaie pas, j�ngst untergekommen bei dfa records, ver�ffentlicht sein neues album demain est une autre nuit. hinter essaie pas verbergen sich die in montreal lebende marie davidson und ihr musikalischer kompagnon pierre guerineau. die geschichte hinter dem neuen album ist gepr�gt durch einen neuanfang. als die band von ihrer ersten europa-tour zur�ck nach montreal kam, mussten die beiden erfahren, dass ihr proberaum und studio einer schnellen gentrifizierung zum opfer gefallen waren, auch ihre wohnung verloren sie nach einem streit mit dem vermieter. einen neuanfang konnten essaie pas in den industriehallen von le filles electriques wagen, einem veranstalter f�r verschiedene k�nstlerische events. this environment influenced our music, sagt pierre. the sounds are more clear and open, the production has more depth, on a full frequency range. die musik von essaie pas l�sst sich schwer in ein genre zw�ngen, vielmehr ist es ein grenz�bertritt zwischen verschiedenen sounds.

the first years, from his first album in 1976 to his 7th in the middle of the 80s, were fuelled with an exemplary sense of creativity and a free-spirit vision. against everyoneÕs advice, cerrone was never reluctant to compose long and pure trance disco tracks, not exactly radio-friendly at the time, but which did incredibly well because they encapsulated the hedonism of the day and were far more than a trend. for instance, love in c minor and supernature have become unbeatable classics, featured regularly in the best pop, disco or dance selections. such a success would have burnt most of the othersÕ wings, whose career would have been ruined. at the beginning of the 80s, when he decided to unleash his creativity on stage, cerrone managed to rebound with you are the one studio album.

after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.
